Other people got sick. They had accidents, Rutledge muttered.

Rutledge was trying to be calm, but the crab overall was almost the size of a dinner plate and the tapering wedge of bone that was its tail extended backward like a dagger into the gloom of the toilet trap.

Though in a way this was fortunate, Rutledge explained, for otherwise its frantic scuttlings would have spun it in circles.
